Fall Wedding Ideas and Themes

Ideas for Throwing Your Fall Wedding

Think of storybook fall setting such as inns, 18th century churches and meeting houses, old mills and even barns. A fall wedding can be casual yet elegant set in a beautiful old barn. You might also look at an apple orchard, a vineyard, or any place that will have a view of fall foliage. If you live in a climate where the leaves don’t change, look for a venue with lots of rich dark wood and warmth such as a gentleman’s club or university club. A fireplace is an extra special touch.

The Décor for Your Fall Wedding

Set the tone for your fall wedding as soon as your guests enter with sheaths of wheat or corn at the entrance. Choose either rich jewel tones to decorate the room, or a traditional fall color scheme such as reds, oranges, browns and yellows. A modern fall color scheme uses only chocolate brown with light-blue accents. Fill the room with the bounty of the season - pumpkins, cornucopias, acorns, and gourds. Make jack-o-lanterns with decorative patterns rather than scary faces, or use paper bag luminaria for a similar effect.

Fall Wedding Flowers

Generally you can find Mums, roses, daisies, yarrow, fall leaves, tallow berries and both natural and dried wheat for inexpensive prices during the fall. A spray of wheat or a mum accented with a pheasant feather makes an elegant boutonnière. Consider hollowing out pumpkins for your centerpiece containers – if you don’t have the time, many craft and home stores now sell realistic fake pumpkins. But if you go with the real thing, consider white or blue natural pumpkins for an elegant and unique touch.

Attire for Your Fall Wedding

I recommend that an autumn bride look for cream and off-white dresses with gold beading and accents. Bridesmaids will look wonderful in jeweltone dresses; match the groomsmen’s vests to their dresses. Look at rich fabrics such as brocades and velvets for a luxurious touch.
Remember that weather in the fall can be tricky – in many areas of the United States, it will be hard to know long in advance whether your wedding day will be warm or chilly. I suggest that the bride and bridesmaids wear strapless dress with capelets, stoles or wraps. On a warm day, the overlayer can be easily removed, but you won’t be left shivering on a chilly day.

How to Plan a Dinner Party

Weddings, Outdoor, Party, Tents, Events, Linens, Rentals , Asheville, Greenville, Cashiers, Sapphire, WNCPlanning an entertaining menu and an evening with guests can be quite intimidating. But with these tips and some planning, you will have a wonderful time at your own party! You'll find basic party tips on this page, and on the next, I'll give you a menu and countdown timetable chart you can use to plan your party.

    * First decide on the date of your party, guest list, and theme. If you choose to entertain around a holiday, many of your decisions will be easier, if you incorporate traditional decorations and food. Invite guests to your party early, preferably two or more weeks ahead of time. This will give them time to RSVP and will give you more time to plan. The comfort of your guests is your primary goal, so think about compatibility, tastes, ages, and the ambiance you want to create.
    * Make a realistic assessment of your cooking and baking skill levels, and the time you'll be able to commit to the party. There are ways to make things easier - takeout and deli foods are absolutely acceptable, and you can have a cookout, picnic, or a potluck party if you are really busy. A sit down dinner party is more formal than a cookout or a buffet, so think carefully about what type of party makes you the most comfortable.
    * Get ready to make lists! Lists are absolutely essential for any party, as you can jot things down as you think of them. Once you have the basics well planned and written down, your mind will be free to be creative with the food, fun, and decor.

* Make your guest list and invite them. Calling is the easiest way to invite, and you will most likely get an immediate response. Another advantage of calling is you can ask (as I always do) if your guests have any food allergies or preferences. For larger parties, like a surprise birthday party, you can send out invitations.

* Plan your menu. Have fun with this, but don't overreach! If you are a beginning cook, choose a main dish that you have made before and enjoy, then build upon it by buying dessert, a premade salad, and some fabulous crusty bakery bread. It's a good idea to never make a recipe for the first time for a party. There's nothing worse than struggling with an unfamiliar recipe when you can hear your guests having fun in the next room! Try to plan a mix of make ahead recipes and those that require last minute baking or preparation. I really prefer having everything done, and ready to just pull out of the fridge and serve, or pop in the oven or on the grill.

* Take inventory of your supplies: table and chairs, serving pieces, cutlery, crystal, plates, candlesticks, serving areas, and of course your kitchen. Think about renting or borrowing items you don't have. Make sure the things you own are sparkling clean and in good repair.

* Think about how you want to decorate. Decorations for a party can be as simple as candlesticks on the table, or more elaborate streamers, balloons, flower arrangements, tablecloths, and even chair slipcovers. Decorate with the seasons too. Fresh flowers in the summer, a bowl full of polished apples and spruce twigs in the winter, or a vase with colorful leaves and cattails in the fall are simple, inexpensive, and beautiful.

How to Plan a Big Family Reunion

By lighthouse1958, eHow Member

It is so easy to get the family together if you plan for this event. Make memories that will last for generations to come.

#1 Be sure and select someone like a leader to be in charge of this event. They must have several helpers because one person cannot put everything together. To have a real nice reunion it takes lots of people to become involved.

#Step 2 Get together everyone's phone numbers and addresses. If you can't get both be sure you run down at least one of them. Do not leave anyone out of this fun filled day. Buy up several books of stamps and invitation cards would be nice also. There is also the computer we can use to help out with this process.

#Step 3 The earlier you set a date, the more you can plan around it. Like for instance, start planning maybe 6 to 12 months in advance. People that are given a time frame can plan around their schedules. They can tell you if they can make it on that date. Be sure and tell them to put the date on their calendar for remembrance. Call the families again the closer it gets to the date.

#Step 4 Bring your camera and some games for the children to play with and sit back and enjoy the day. You deserve it. After you have the pictures developed, send them to the families to show how much fun everyone had on that special day. Try and get some pictures of every family if possible. This will be a job in itself. You may want to get several people to help you with this project.

Q and A on Choosing a Wedding Cake

Wedding Cake

By Joanne Elliott

So you're planning your wedding? Of course you've thought of the dress, the colors, the flowers, the invitations… And now it's time to think about the wedding cake. So where do you start?

Wedding cake traditions

Wedding cakes are a predominantly Western tradition in marriage ceremonies. It is the tradition that a newly married couple stand together, hand on hand, and cut the cake together. This is because cutting the cake is a symbol of unity and togetherness. Cutting the wedding cake together is also another essential marker of the couple's commitment to one another on their special day. This is basically the reason why wedding cakes are still so popular in modern culture.

So… what sort of cake should we go for?

Wedding cakes come in a huge variety of different sizes, shapes and colors. It is entirely up to the couple which flavor they choose to decide upon for their special day. Most popular flavors include fruit cake, chocolate cake, sponge cake and even cream cakes. There are no hard and fast rules and it is entirely the couples' decision which they would like to select.

What color should we go for?

The color of the wedding cake should usually tie in with the chosen wedding colors in general. For example, you could link in the color of the brides dress, the grooms ties, the flowers, the wedding favors etc. You should speak to your chosen wedding cake provider for more in depth and more specific advice.

What size should I go for?

Usually they are very large as there must be enough of the wedding cake to give to all of your guests. It has become fashionable over the years for the cakes to be multi leveled or tiered. A multileveled, or tiered cake simple means that there are several different sections to the same cake piles up in layers - usually in decreasing size as the tower grows higher. This not only makes the entire cake balance but also helps to make it aesthetically pleasing to your valued wedding guest.

Who should I hire?

There are many different companies that cater to the special couples' needs. The range of products on offer can differ dramatically in areas such as aesthetics, recipe, taste, number of tiers, icing color etc etc.

It is usual for companies to have one to one meetings with the intended couple and to work together as a team to decide upon the perfect cake for the perfect wedding day. This can be established through a numerous amount of methods. Depending upon the company they may take their pick from taste testing to looking at photographic samples, color swatch matching and other inspirational ideas. Remember that they have been through the process many times before.

Delivery service

Often your chosen wedding cake provider will offer to deliver your wedding cake to your chosen venue free of charge. This will not only help to ease the various pressures of planning and organizing your special day, it will also give you peace of mind. Having your wedding cake delivered removes any worries reference picking it up and potential problems with transportation. Remember, there are very valuable and costly goods at the end of the day.

Summer Entertaining Tips

Summer is the easiest season to entertain. Parties are expected to be casual, seasonal produce is abundant and inexpensive, and nature does the decorating for you. Remember to follow these important tips, and your summer parties are destined for success.
1. Always Have Plenty of Ice!
Never underestimate how quickly the ice will be used during a summer party. Even if the party is inside, guests are still feeling the heat of the summer day and requiring lots of cooling ice.
2. You Can't Overestimate How Many Beverages You'll Need
From soft drinks to beer to blender drinks, there's never enough in the summer. Whether your guests are simply walking outside and chatting, or playing an energetic game of volleyball, they'll work up a stronger thirst than they do in the other three seasons. Include bottled water in your beverage arsenal. Sometimes nothing does the trick like a nice icy glass of H2O. Place a bucket of fruit filled ice cubes on the side to add a little extra pizzazz.
3. Lighten Up Your Menu
Use as many fresh, seasonal ingredients in your menu as possible. As thirsts increase during the summer, appetites for heavy recipes shrink. Opt for salads and grilled food in place of stews and casseroles. Not only will your guests welcome the seasonal change, you'll find it's much quicker and cooler to prepare this food in the hot weather.
4. Keep Your Party Goods Casual and Colorful
There's no need to drag your expensive place settings outside. Take the opportunity to use inexpensive melamine and other plastic materials. If you don't own any, it pays over the long haul to invest in a sturdy set of summer dinnerware. Colorful dishes help to create a festive mood, it's cheaper than buying disposables if you host a lot of summer parties, and it's better for the environment!
5. Remind Your Guests that the Party is Dress Casual
Unless you're hosting a wedding or some other formal event, nobody wants to wear fussy clothing in the summer. So give your guests permission to wear funky, colorful cottons and sassy summer sandals.
6. Provide Shelter from the Sun
If you're hosting a daytime party outside, provide your guests with options for escaping from the sun. Whether it's a rented tent, chairs placed under a shady tree, or tables with umbrellas, your guests will appreciate a place to escape from the heat.
7. Take Your Party on the Road
Do you have a local beach that permits private parties? How about a park or pool club? Change the venue and watch your crowd loosen up with the change of scenery.
8. Remember Food Safety
Always keep cold food cold and hot food hot. Summer heat quickly turns good food into a stomach disaster if not served under correct conditions.
9. Serve Ice Cream Sundaes and Cookies for Dessert
The cookies can be prepared (or purchased) in advance and sundaes are a favorite make-your-own-dessert. Who doesn't love this combo?
10. Provide Personal Conveniences Your Guests May Have Forgotten
Hey, it's hard to remember everything when you're looking forward to having a good time! So offer your guests sunscreen, bug spray, flip flops, towels, and even hand sanitizers if you're partying away from home.

4th of July Party Tips

Don't wait until the last minute to try and get everything together. Chances are you'll forget something important. Instead, start early and plan everything out. Being prepared does make a difference when it comes to throwing a successful party. It's too difficult to put everything together at the last minute and most of the time everyone that you want to invite will already have plans.

1. Choose a date and time that will be convenient for your friends and family.

2. Decide what type of party you'll be giving. For example, a backyard BBQ or something more formal, like a catered event?

3. Send out invitations early before everyone makes other plans and ask them to RSVP so you'll know how many people will be attending the party. Be sure and include information about the type of party you're having so everyone will know how to dress.

4.Make a list of everything you'll need for the party and go over it a couple of times to see if anything needs to be added or changed.

5. About a week before the party go out and pick up all of the supplies you need. This way, if you forgot to put something on your list, you'll most likely discover it's missing when you go through the party favors or before the big day arrives. You can also buy all non-perishable foods for the party at this time.

6. Start getting everything ready the day before the party. This includes manicuring your lawn and decorating your home. Go over your party list one more time to make sure everything is in order.

7. Go over your menu for the party to ensure you have enough food for everyone and that you're serving a good variety so there will be something for even the picky eaters.

Using these tips will help you plan out your party so everything will go smoothly. You'll be able to enjoy the party more because you won't be stressed out trying to take care of everything last minute. Planning ahead simply makes things easier and it helps to ensure your 4th of July party is one that everyone will have fond memories of for a long time.

Father's Day Tips

Father's Day Ideas

1. During the week prior to Father's Day, have the kids decorate a special jar or box and write down things they love about Dad. Put these in the jar or box. On Father's Day, present him with the special holder, and have him read all the things the kids love about him.

2. If the weather is good, have a BBQ, but let Dad rest in his hammock with the cool drink while the family does the cooking his favorite way-unless he insists on taking over!

3. OK, so what is Dad's favorite fun thing to do? Does he love fishing or playing golf? How about riding bikes or going to the ballgame? Think about what he loves best, and plan a family outing in honor of him.

4. Create a special photo album of special moments from the past year with Dad. This can either be a digital photo album that you post online or a physical album that you present to him on Father's Day. Make sure to add captions to each picture for added fun.

5. Instead of purchasing cards, have your kids make their own using construction paper and craft items, like sequins, glitter glue, and yarn.
